Paradigm Initiative Nigeria (PIN) in Collaboration with Codify Naija organised a 3-week coding and programming camp for secondary school students in Kano State.
The Kano edition engaged 17 students who were trained by Codify Naija from July 27th to August 13th at the Rochas Foundation College in Kano. At the start of the program, only four students had previously used thecomputer butthe demo-based approach used in teaching was quite effective as the students showed rapid improvements and were able to grasp the lessons and practice concepts quite fast.
In the 3-week long Code Camp, the students worked in groups as well as individually to enhance their learning skills in HTML, CSS, and some Jquery (a javascript library). To test their understanding, the students also wrote two tests in the final week of the Code Camp.
At the end of the Kano Code Camp, the best 3 students received sponsorships from Codify Naija to learn coding in any identified learning centres in Kano. Likewise, all students were presented with the book “Rich Dad, Poor Dad”, as a means of exposing them to the world of entrepreneurship. Many of the students expressed disappointment at how quickly the program ended and wished for more time for them to learn.
